Paying for services in the community
Social care services in the community can help you live independently in your own home for longer.
These include:
- homecare and personal support
- Telecare equipment and alarms
- day services or day care
- community supported living
Paying towards your care
Most people will have to pay something towards their care. The amount you pay – if any – will depend on what you can afford, not your care needs. You shouldn't be prevented from having the care you need because you can't afford it.
We carry out an assessment of your finances to find out how much you have to pay, and whether you are eligible to have us contribute towards the cost of the services you need.
The government gives guidance on what you can afford and how you can pay.
