Types of care home
There are 2 types of care home in Thurrock.
Residential care homes
Residential care homes provide accommodation, meals and assistance with personal care whenever the need arises over a 24 hour period.
If you have any nursing needs, assistance may be provided by visits from the district nursing service whenever they are needed.
'High dependency' residential care means that additional moving and handling may be needed – for example, needing a hoist to help with moving.
Nursing care homes
Nursing care homes provide accommodation, meals, assistance with personal care, and access to qualified nursing staff who are on duty 24 hours each day.
Specialisms and services
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) lists the specialisms and services offered by individual care homes – for example:
- old age – for people who have a physical illness more common in old age, such as loss of mobility
- dementia – for people who have an illness related to dementia
- mental health – for people who have a mental health problem other than dementia
- physical disability – for people who have a medical condition that affects their physical ability
