About extra-care housing
Extra-care housing – also known as 'assisted living' – is a type of housing with care. This means you stay independent while you are assisted with tasks such as washing, dressing, going to the toilet or taking medication. Read more at Age UK: assisted living and extra-care housing.
You would have your own home – either your own flat in an apartment building, or a house or bungalow in a development that has staff to help when you need.
Extra-care housing:
- lets you live independently for as long as possible
- gives you the security and privacy of your own front door
- gives you all the usual rights of a tenant
- provides personal support that lets you stay in their own home
