Preparing a neighbourhood plan
Community groups will be responsible for preparing their neighbourhood plan. They could write the plan’s policies themselves, or they could get help or ask another group to do it. We can support neighbourhood planning work by advising on the policies.
Groups must decide who to consult based on the scope and nature of the proposals they are developing. Plans are more likely to succeed if communities discuss ideas and work together from the earliest stages.
Government regulations set out minimum requirements for consultation and publicity. We can offer advice. Our statement of community involvement for planning policy might be a helpful guide.
Local councillors should be involved in neighbourhood planning for their area. They can help progress the work by raising its profile in the community and the council, and with access to resources for the work.
