Overview
The law allows communities to shape new developments in their area by coming together to prepare a neighbourhood plan.
Local people can:
- choose where they want new homes and businesses to be built
- have a say on what they should look like and what infrastructure is needed
A neighbourhood plan must be in general conformity with planning policy for the area
Groups such as community forums lead in creating neighbourhood plans.
Plans must be:
- examined independently
- put to a referendum of local people for approval
