Development-related travel plans
Travel plans, transport assessments and statements are important parts of development planning.
They are ways of:
- assessing and mitigating the negative transport impacts of development
- promote sustainable development
They are required for all developments that will result in significant travel.
The transport assessment should provide the detail of the transport conditions and likely impact of development. The travel plan provides the long-term strategy to mitigate any adverse impacts and to maximise the potential for sustainable travel behaviour.
The travel plan and transport assessment are inter-dependent, but the travel plan should be prepared and submitted as a stand-alone document. It will:
- provide the framework for implementing mitigation measures and monitoring at the site
- be the main reference document for the occupier of the development
