Notice period and handing back your keys
You must give 4 weeks notice before ending your tenancy. Your notice period begins from the date you submit your documents – go to our step by step guide.
You can return your keys to us at any time during your notice period but you will be charged rent until your notice period has expired.
Handing back your keys
Keys must be handed in by midday on a Monday. Keys handed in late will accumulate rent – and service charges, where applicable – that you will be liable to pay.
You must hand in your keys at the ground floor kiosk area of the Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, RM17 6SL.
Once you return your keys to us you won't be able to change your mind or be allowed to re-enter the property for any reason.
It is important that you:
- get a receipt when you hand in your keys – this is your proof of the date and time the keys were handed in
- never send in keys or paperwork in by post – if they are lost in the post they are still your responsibility
- don't hand in your keys in before you've signed the tenancy surrender form as you will continue to be charged rent, and may be served a legal notice that could result in charges
