Car parks and on-street parking

Off-street car parks

Our off-street car parks are all pay-and-display and open 24 hours a day. You must buy a ticket for the amount of time you need.

All pay-and-display parking machines only accept payment by debit card or credit card – following a series of break-ins, the machines no longer accept or contain cash.

Charges and instructions are displayed with all pay-and-display machines. A phone number will be displayed if there's a problem with the machine. You can apply for an annual pass below.

Grays town centre is a controlled parking zone that has both off-street car parks and on-street pay-and-display parking.

Annual pass for council-owned off-street car parks

If you regularly pay to use any of council-owned off-street car parks listed above, you may benefit from buying an annual pay and display car park pass.

The pass allows unlimited parking in any council-owned off-street car park for 1 year. It costs £900.

Use our online My Account service to apply for an annual pass below. You can register to create a new account if you don't already have one.

My Account – parking permits

When you login, you will be shown:

  • Permits – a list of your electronic permits and their current status (older paper permits are not listed)
  • Permit Applications Available – a list of the types of parking permit for which you can apply.

For an annual off-street pay-and-display car park pass, go to the 'Permit Applications Available' table and use the 'Apply' button for the type of permit you need.

When applying for a new permit, you will be asked to upload images that show proof of vehicle ownership. This could be either:

  • your V5 registration document, if it's a UK vehicle that you own
  • your vehicle hire agreement, if it's a hired vehicle
  • a letter on company letter-headed paper showing the vehicle registration number and your name and address as an employee, if it's a vehicle owned by your employer

You can upload images direct from your own computer or smartphone.
