Thurrock Council’s Youth Cabinet took part in a session of Youth Debates at the Civic Offices in Grays on Tuesday 15 October, part of Local Democracy Week.
The debates centred around important issues that affect young people such as work experience opportunities and the need for a curriculum that better prepares young people for life.
Cllr Ryan Polston, was in attendance for the event to listen to our Youth Cabinet's discussions and hear their ideas.
Efe Donkor, Member of Thurrock's Youth Cabinet said: "The Youth Debates highlighted the importance of Local Democracy Week and Youth Voice.
"Having our voice heard and being represented is very important as it gives young people a way to express their opinions.
"We were able to have our ideas acknowledged and understood by members of the council which was a big success."
Cllr Ryan Polston said: "It was inspiring to hear the insightful perspectives of our young residents. Their views on a range of issues that affect young people were powerful and well-articulated.
"Their passion and ideas will undoubtedly influence how we, as a council, approach decisions that impact Thurrock’s younger generation.
"It’s essential that we continue to provide platforms like these to ensure their voices are part of the conversation as we build a better future together."
