Cycling offers a range of benefits, from helping the environment by reducing the number of cars on the road to improving the health and wellbeing of the riders.
While cycling can make people happier, healthier, greener, and more connected to their community, some residents may face barriers to getting started. Thurrock Council offers several initiatives to support residents in gaining the confidence they need to start riding.
Adult cycling training
Almost 1 in 4 adults don't know how to ride a bike. For some, learning to ride can seem daunting if they’ve never had the experience before.
Thurrock Council offers one-to-one cycling training with a qualified instructor for adults who are unable to ride a bike or need a bit more confidence before taking to two wheels.
Training sessions can be arranged nearby for added convenience.

Learn-to-ride sessions
We also offer one-to-one sessions for children aged five years-old and older who cannot ride a pedal bike unaided. These sessions are perfect for giving children and adults the skills and confidence they need to ride a bicycle more regularly.
