Councillors will discuss proposals for the borough's Council Tax to increase by 5.99%, plus a 2% adult social care precept when Extraordinary Corporate Overview and Scrutiny meet on Wednesday 14 February.
These are proposals at this stage, for debate at meetings running up to Budget Council at the end of the month when the council budget for the year is due to be set.
Following Overview and Scrutiny's discussion on Wednesday, the proposals will go forward to an Extraordinary meeting of Cabinet on Wednesday 21 February. Cabinet will decide whether or not to recommend the proposed increase to Budget Council on Wednesday 28 February. All 49 councillors will be able to vote on a final decision as part of the budget setting process.
If approved at Budget Council, it means that a band D property will pay £1,711.62 a year for Thurrock Council services in 2024/25, an increase of £126.45 a year, or £2.43 a week. The final Council Tax bill will include additional precepts from Essex Police and Fire Services, which come to £329.04 on a band D property. For more information on these precepts, go to Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) for Essex: PFCC Budget 2024/25 endorsed by Essex Police, Fire and Crime Panel.
