Air quality monitoring
We monitor and measure air pollution levels from roads, industry, and property at air quality management areas in Thurrock. Traffic emissions, especially from heavy goods vehicles, are the major contributor to poor air quality in most of these areas.
The government's Clean Air Strategy sets out actions needed across all parts of government and society to improve air quality – go to GOV.UK: Clean Air Strategy 2019.
Developers
Developers should consider the air quality impact of their developments. You can find air quality reports below, and contact us for further information.
Industry
We check emissions from trade, commercial and smaller industrial premises.
Larger industries, such as power stations, fuel storage installations and sewage treatment works are regulated by the Environment Agency.
Smoke control and bonfires
We investigate bonfires at businesses or properties if they cause an odour or smoke nuisance.
